CATCHING UP WITH BETH CROWLEY!

We caught up with Beth Crowley the other day over donuts, and got the latest scoop on what she's been up to. The short answer, quite a lot.

Beth is currently working on her second commissioned song. She was asked by an author to write a song exclusively for their book series. Looking at a release date of mid October. Crowley is also recording a Karaoke album with instrumentals from some of her previously released songs. Fans have been requesting instrumental versions, so she decided to re-release material doing just that. Beyond that the door is open. "I'm still kind of planning out what I want to do for 2018." Beth says, adding that she's more of a go with the flow type of girl.

Lately Beth has taken her music another route, and started performing songs at book signings. Most recently she played at a  Sarah J Mass event. As an avid reader of the author's books, it was an honor for Beth. She wrote "Battle Cry"  ased on one of Sarah's books. "I found that's more of my audience definitely, book people." She confides she always does well at other types of events but doesn't get the same response. So many of Crowley's songs are based on books, that the book world is able to relate to her music more. One thing Beth wants to focus on doing more of is author signings and looking into getting involved with book festivals.

The book circuit is a whole other market, and it has its own set of rules and ways to break into. Crowley played a show in NYC a few weeks ago, which thankful for the opportunity, wasn't quite the right arena for her music. "Getting more into the world of author signings and book events in generally that seems the best place to be able to play for me."

She adds that "There is definitely an opportunity there and people that want to hear it. It's just a matter of putting it all together." Not wanting to exclude other fans and music lovers Beth tries to write things that even if you haven't read the books, the songs are standalone and relate-able.

Her favorite read right now is the Sarah J Mass series "The Court of Thorns and Roses Trilogy" She's currently engrossed in the second book and highly recommends it to Young Adult Fiction readers. She was excited to attend an author signing for Mass's "Shadow and Bone" novel in the Grisham trilogy. "There isn't enough hours in the day to read all that I want to read." confesses this bookworm.

In addition to enjoying reading other people's books, Beth has been working on writing one of her own. Although the book got put on the back burner while doing the last EP, she's excited about having the chance to re-visit it as of late.  While she isn't ready to release details quite this soon, she's hoping to have a first draft completed by next August.

Beth also just recorded her first music video for "Monster". She was very proud of that. There are a few new lyric videos out on YouTube, which are doing well. Crowley is always trying to find new opportunities to get her music out there. As a way to boost YouTube subscribes she has started Throwback Thursday's with a new cover song out each week. After watching  videos from girl groups in the late 1990s and early 2000s she thought it would be fun to do a series covering some of those very songs.

When asked about goals Beth shares the dream of a lot of creative people. "I'd love to get to the point where I can make a living off this being my full time job." She is a one woman team and works hard. There are always a thousand things on her to do list and tons of ideas floating around. Her goal is  to do one thing productive everyday, no matter what else life throws at her.  Her social media numbers have grown organically, which she finds more rewarding as a part of hard work. "I try to keep it manageable and have benchmarks of things I want to accomplish. It makes me feel rewarded as I hit different things." Her latest goal is to hit 50,000 subscribers on YouTube and we believe she'll do just that.

In this day and age it's so easy to get carried away with social media and focus too much on the numbers your getting on these various apps. Beth got caught up in that earlier this year, and had a brief moment where she was putting out things she thought would get her those hits. She soon realized that her fans want to see her making her music, so that's what she'll continue to do. Beth is really happy with her last CD and all that she has accomplished, as she should be. "The work is not done. It's a lot of hard work, but it's good."
