INTRODUCING...CANAAN COX!

Country singer-songwriter Canaan Cox  just dropped his latest single "Lie" this month and will be following with a music video to be released next week! Cox has been getting a lot of rave reviews from independent blogs in regards to the new single. It was even featured on I-Tunes Country Hot Tracks. "That was pretty cool as an independent artist seeing your name up there between Kelsea Ballerini and Shania Twain" Canaan exclaims adding that it's cool knowing that people like what you are putting out.And people do. New fans have been reaching out from all over the US.

Cox got his first break working for Carnival Cruise Lines. "It was a great way to spend your 20's traveling. Getting paid to do what you love." He enjoyed getting to see the sights with the tourists and playing music in the evenings. "It was a blessing in disguise to help build a fan base" Canaan says, because every week you had 2-3,000 new people on the boat. It was on that cruise ship where Canaan met a few people in the industry, specializing in management. They encouraged him to move to Nashville, saying it was the first step to making his dreams a reality. Taking their advice he finished up his gig in Alaska, packed up, and headed for Nashville.

Canaan grew up in a musical family, with both parents playing and performing, so music is in his blood. He recalls that they were always singing. Even Grandma got in on the act, playing piano in a small baptist church. It was there he got his first taste of performing on a stage, singing hymns as a small child. But it wasn't until college that he began to take music seriously, pursuing Musical Theater. One of his teachers, a producer, heard Canaan singing and asked if he ever wrote his own stuff. Deciding  to give it a try  they recorded some tunes. Just like that he was hooked. Graduating from a small private college with a degree in Musical Theater, he believes has contributed to his performing abilities. "Folks say your not just up there singing. You are  putting on a show." and he prides himself on that.

As part of a large family Canaan has been exposed to various styles of music and has a wide array of musical influences because of it. While his brothers listened to heavy metal his sisters loved boy bands. Mom would crank Lynyrd Skynard and dad could be found listening to Conway Twitty. He also enjoys listening to Independent Artists such as James Bay and Ed Sheeran. A lot of his influences such as Hanson and Michael Jackson are very soulful in his opinion. The very different styles of music have all contributed to Canaan's sound. Being in the industry his parents gave him valuable advice that he tries to remind himself of everyday. "My dad says work hard my mom says stay humble".

When asked how he would describe his music the word versatile comes to mind. People are always telling him that they don't even like country music but they like his stuff. He likens it to "Country twang singing pop songs."

Currently this independent artist is working on his EP. He's been talking with producers and musicians, trying to get all of the right pieces together. The plan is to release new music in October or November. When asked what fans an expect on the EP he tells us a little bit of everything. The single "Lie" he describes as more modern country. There are a few other songs with that vibe, but there are also a few tracks that break it down. One cut in particular "Just Me" is very raw with just an acoustic guitar and vocals.

Canaan is set to embark on a radio tour next month. Nashville visitors and locals can often find him down on Broadway playing at Cerveza Jack's among other local area establishments. "That's the blessing of Nashville. They pay you in tips and the bar pays you in food and beer. And that's fine by me." He'd love to be able to travel the world and get his music out there.

Canaan has major goals for his career, believing firmly in shooting for the stars. "Taylor Swift sold out  Madison Square Garden in 60 seconds. I want to beat that. That's my ultimate goal." Cox tells us. We wish him the best of luck!
