Tracey: Do you play any instruments?
Daniel: I do not play any instruments, unfortunately. When I was younger I took piano lessons and not this Christmas but the Christmas before that, 2 years ago, I asked for a guitar for Christmas and I got it. But I have yet to play it, and it’s like 12, what 12-14 months ago and I still haven’t played it. But I would love to play piano and guitar, cos I write so it’s very easy to write and place the melody. Like, when I write a song I know the notes on the piano. But I can’t go on there and play a whole song or anything. But when I write a song, I come up with the melody, and I play it on the piano. This is an A, then I put it above the word so I know all the notes, so I can go through. But that’s the only way I can really play a song. I cannot read music. It’s really sad. I can’t read music unfortunately, but I’ve tried. Since I was 10 I’ve been in performing arts studios and dance studios, and always taken. But I don’t remember them ever teaching us. It was an extra class, and I never took it. But I would love to learn how to do that more.
Josh: It looks like I’m going to have to teach you how to read notes.
Daniel: Yeah, I need that.
Josh: I’ll teach you.
Daniel: K.
Tracey: I took a piano class in college and they were doing like music theory. That stuff is so hard.
Daniel: Yeah, it’s so cool when you know how to do it. Like when I look at a musician and they are just going, there’s so many notes on sheet music it’s insane. And for somebody to just be playing the piano and just going through, going through. I almost feel like they have to know what they are playing. It’s not like they are really reading it, you know what I mean? But they are. It’s crazy. And then, they flip the sheet so fast. They just know right where they are, amazing.
Tracey: I don’t see how they keep the notes apart, because like the teacher would always come over and be like “what note is this?” and I’d be like “I don’t know, I can’t tell them apart.”
Daniel: But like with me I know what is it F-A-C-E and Every Good Boy Does Fine, you know. So if I ever had to read sheet music I’d have to be like okay that’s an F, that’s a C, that’s a G, when all these other people you know, it just comes so naturally. They just are like FGABC and not like.
Josh: That’s what I can do, I can work it out and be like whatever note.
Daniel: Yeah.
Tracey: What do you like to do for fun?
Daniel: What I like to do for fun, I like to hang out with my friends. I like to go to shows, like performances, concerts or anything like that. I love to go to the movies, listen to music. I love snowboarding. There’s, I actually live in L.A. but believe it or not an hour or two away from here in Los Angeles County they have a few snowboarding places, so I love going snowboarding with my friends. I actually go night skiing. They have all the lights and everything up at nighttime. So I go from like 5-10 at night, and I just go snowboarding for 5 straight hours and it’s fun. But I also love the beach. I like waking up early and going to the beach and hanging out. It’s really fun to do. But I also like gymnastics. I go to the gym and I also go to the gymnastics center and work out and stuff like that. Just regular stuff, it’s nothing too fantastic or anything.
Tracey: Sweet.
Josh: The beach is awesome.
Daniel: Yes, I love the beach. Like L.A. is so big that you could live in L.A. and be an hour from the beach. It’s funny because I’m from Florida, so all my friends, when I say California they think of ‘oh my gosh you live on the beach and you go surfing every day’. Hollister is such a big brand in Florida that they think Hollister, everything in L.A. is like Hollister, you know what I mean.
Josh: Yeah, I know. I wouldn’t mind living on the beach myself. Malibu is nice.
Daniel: Yeah Malibu is gorgeous, I love Malibu.
Josh: Could you imagine having a house on Malibu or Maui?
Daniel: Yeah.
Josh: Yeah I know right?
Daniel: That would be awesome.
Tracey: I wouldn’t mind just going and visiting California.
Daniel: You have to come here. We have to hang out.
Tracey: That’s what everybody keeps telling me. That’s what I should do this summer.
Daniel: Why don’t you?
Tracey: Thinking about it. I asked Liz if she’d want to come with, she’s like Heck Yeah! Cos she’s been there before, I haven’t.
Daniel: Well you should come definitely. We’d have a blast.
Josh: Oh yeah, especially the beach. That’s like the most awesome thing.
Tracey: Final question. Is there anything you would like to say to Pop Blitz and its readers?
Daniel: Yes, I would love to tell Pop Blitz that Pop Blitz Magazine is awesome. I think you guys do a great job at supporting artists who aren’t new or well known actors. And I think it’s great that we have this magazine that can help promote young actors. And I think it’s amazing. I’d also like to say t hank you to all my fans who listen to all my music, and came to the website to listen to the interview and all that stuff. I really thank them for all their support. And I would like to give a shoutout to my #1 fan Kim. I was on tour with the Cheetah Girls and I wasn’t even performing at either of the shows she went to and she still came just to see me and hang out. She supports me, sends me messages, and just talks to me all the time, and she’s just the number 1 fan ever so thank you!
Special thanks to Daniel for contacting us, and for all his help. We had a blast talking to you. Best of luck in 06!
