Tracey: Hey, I ’m Tracey. Hi, I’m Michelle. And we are Pop Blitz Magazine. Today we are speaking with pop/rock singer Jessica Mellott. How’s it going Jessica?
Jessica: I’m doing good, how about you guys?
Tracey: Good.
Michelle: We’re good.
Tracey: For those that aren’t familiar with you, how would you describe yourself and your music?
Jessica: Well I’m definitely fun and outgoing, and that definitely reflects in my music, because it’s pop and it’s upbeat so it’s a lot of fun.
Tracey: You’re a senior in high school. How excited are you?
Jessica: *laughs* I have to say I’m very excited, because you know I’ve been going to school for you know, all 12 years, so I just can’t believe it’s my last year. It’s really cool.
Michelle: I miss high school.
Jessica: Aww.
Tracey: College is much better.
Jessica: Well, I haven’t been to college yet. I’m in between.
Michelle: You’re in between stages.
Jessica: *laughs* That’s funny.
Tracey: Well just a heads up to both of you college is more fun.
Jessica: Cool.
Michelle: I’ve heard, my sister likes it.
Tracey: What’s your schedule like?
Jessica: Ok well I go to high school in the morning for 3 hours, and I go to the advanced music studies program, so that’s really cool. And then, two times a week I go to English class at the local college. And I also take a humanities class online from the college. Then, the rest of the day I basically work on music, and write back to my fans, check my myspace and email.
Michelle: Sounds like a lot of fun.
Jessica: *laughs* Yeah. I love doing it.
Tracey: Get you ahead of the game too with credits.
Jessica: *laughs* I love that too. That’s why I decided to go to college part time.
Michelle: That’s awesome.
Jessica: Thank you.
Tracey: Well you already mentioned some of the classes, but is there any others you are taking, and what is your favorite class?
Jessica: Um I’m basically taking Humanities and English, and the Advanced Music Studies is actually two periods, so it’s like double credit. I would have to say that AMS is my favorite class, with my love for music, so I love to do that because we do vocal ensemble, piano, music theory.
Michelle: That would be so much fun.
Jessica: Yeah, it’s cool because I went to a theater camp once and all of the kids were like ‘Aww I wish we had that program’ so it was really cool.
Tracey: I wish we had that program. I don’t think I’d probably qualify for it though.
Jessica: I bet would, you would do good.
Tracey: Do you have to have talent music wise?
Jessica: *laughs*
Tracey: Do you plan on going to college, if so where and what for?
Jessica: *laughs* Yeah.
Michelle: I was in ensemble and choir so that was a lot of fun.
Jessica: Yeah, I love doing that. That’s cool.
Tracey: I took a piano class once, but that’s about it.
Michelle: I can’t play piano.
Tracey: I forgot everything I learned, because I haven’t touched it in forever. We have a rock and roll class where we learn about all the bands from the start until now.
Jessica: Oh that’s really cool.
Michelle: I wish I would have had that.
Jessica: I know!
Tracey: That was the class everybody wanted.
Michelle: Mmhmm.
Jessica: That’s so cool.
Tracey: Well I guess you’ve already started, but do you plan on going to college, if so what for?
Jessica: Actually none of my plans after high school have been finalized. I’ll keep you guys posted.
Michelle: Ok.
Tracey: Sounds good. Do you know what you would go for if you did?
Jessica: I would definitely go for music.
Tracey: You’ve had an extremely busy summer. What’s been going on with you career wise, and what should we be on the look out for?
Jessica: Oh yeah, my summer has been really busy. I’ve been doing a lot. My song was picked to be in an indie movie, so that was really cool. I was also picked to be a featured artist in a book that just came out about myspace, it’s called “Hacking Myspace” so that was really cool.
Michelle: That is really cool.
Jessica: Yeah it was really exciting, because I got the book and I was like ‘there’s my picture’ so that was very cool. I’ve just signed up with a production company, so my performance schedule is going to be kicked up into high gear. My next show is actually going to be at the “Walter Reed Center” so I’m really excited. It’s for soldiers, so I feel really good about it.
Tracey: Sweet!
Michelle: Awesome!
Jessica: Thanks!
Tracey: Are you going to be touring around the local area or nationally?
Jessica: I’m not quite sure yet. It’s still tentative, but probably all over, hopefully.
Tracey: They should add Minnesota.
Jessica: I know, so I can come to Mall of America and go there with you guys.
Tracey: Yeah.
Michelle: It’d be fun.
Tracey: Tour around the mall.
